Daily Quote

I was at the mall the other day eating at the food court. I noticed an old man watching a teenager sitting next to him. The teenager had spiked hair in all different colors: green, red, orange, and blue. The old man kept staring at him. The teenager would look and find the old man staring every time. When the teenager had enough, he sarcastically asked, "What's the matter old man, never done anything wild in your life?"

The old man did not bat an eye in his response. "Got drunk once and had sex with a peacock. Just wondering if you were my son."

DOES YOUR WEB SITE DESIGNER KNOW THE TRAVEL BUSINESS?

As in any new industry, many people involved try to up their status and hold you hostage by promulgating confusion. I guess it’s human nature trying to be indispensable. They are trying to make it appear too complicated and too intricate for the average person to fully understand. They even use technical language to describe simple tasks just to stir-up the confusion still more. Myths are born from that reality. Plainly stated the Internet is simply not that complicated.

SEARCH READY & SALES DRIVEN HOTEL WEB SITES

A picture's worth a thousand words-Not Anymore!

Since the 1990’s, hoteliers slowly moved to create a presence on the web. In addition most of the early sites were no more than online brochures created by techies who had little or no marketing experience. The sites were not easily found by search engines as they lacked the necessary sales text to be found as well as encourage visitors to make reservations. Into the new Millenium many independent hotels didn’t even have a booking engine to enable online real-time reservations.

Well….Technology has changed a lot since then......

American Travel Trends

American Travel Trends

Americans are traveling more during the spring and summer months and less in the winter months than last year, says a new FunJet study on the average American vacation.

"While June, July and August remain the most popular travel months for both years, each month was up six percentage points in 2007 than in 2006," the study said.

April and May saw more increases in travelers in 2007 than last year.

The winter months, especially December, are anticipated to see fewer travelers this year than last.

Last December was a popular travel time, with 21% of vacationers choosing that month to get away. This year's travel numbers will be lower.

What are vacationers doing?

Edu-vacations and experiential travel are two travel trends supported by this survey. Relaxing on a beach, however, still holds the No. 1 spot. Activities in order of response are ranked below:

0.Beaches (54%)

0.Culture (51%)

0.Adventures (41%)

0.Spa (19%)

0.Gaming/Gambling (19%)

0.Wine (18%)

0.Golf (8%)

Where are travelers going?

"More than 63% of Americans plan to visit US destinations other than Las Vegas this year for their air/hotel vacations. About 18% chose Las Vegas, 13% choose the Caribbean, and 7% each chose Hawaii and Mexico," the study says.

Some other facts from the study:

0.More 25- to 34-year-olds (15%) and 35- to 49-year-olds (16%) are going to the Caribbean than those 65 and older (9%).

0.Those in the 50-to 64-year-old and 65 plus categories (both 10%) are going to Hawaii this year more than 18- to 24-year-olds (only 3%) and 25- to 34-year-olds (4%).

Significantly, more college graduates (21%) are going to vacation in Las Vegas this year than high school and graduate school graduates (14%).

Does Your Website Generate Business?

After looking and analyzing hundred's of hotel and resort web sites in recent weeks, it perplexes me how many hotel web sites are totally or at least partially dysfunctional. While going through the upload process for our pocket market search engine zebrabot I noticed that there are so many sites not in-step with basic search engine requirements; sites with badly written text content; poor navigation; pictures too slow to download; thus basically sites which are not designed to sell rooms or services, but just transfer a pretty picture. It's even more mindboggling why almost all the St.Martin-St.Maarten Hotel and Resort sites lack the payment solution to make a reservation??  Here are some pointers...............

Strong US economy spurring profitable Caribbean hotel market

PKF Hospitality Research found Caribbean hotels have been running a profit due largely to increasing rates of travel from a strong US economy.

Last year, Caribbean hotels averaged $111,414 per available room for a net profit margin of almost 23%, according to the first-ever study of its kind.

Over the past three years, visitors to the Caribbean grew by 19%.

More than half of the revenue sources of the hotels came from rooms, while food sales and beverages represented almost 26% of income.
